The FBI and Maui police are asking the disclose to alert any doubtful activity after an improvised device devices (IEDs) caparticipated an explosion last week and after disconnectal others have been recovered.
The explosion happened on Aug. 8 on Old Haleakala Highway, according to a press free from the FBI. The 7-inch by 4-inch cylinder shaped IED had been left in a trash receptacle before it struck a passing vehicle, sfinishing the driver to the hospital.
“I saw a flash in the sky and I thought it was gonna be weightlessning,” witness Jessica Weatherholt telderly local station KITV. “I heard the boisteroparticipatest explosion that I’ve ever heard in my entire life. It sounded appreciate an attack. It sounded appreciate somebody was dropping device devices.”

Several IEDs have been identified and accumulateed by the FBI and Maui Police Department (MPD) from trash receptacles or other areas outside of plain watch alengthy roadways between Kahului and Kula, authorities shelp. They vary in shape and size but have been rfinishered protected.
“The FBI and MPD persist to inspire the disclose to alert any doubtful activity that could current a menace to disclose protectedty, such as someone leaving an object unfusecessitate in a disclose space,” the FBI’s press free states. “If you see a doubtful or obsremedy object, especiassociate proximate any street or road, do not touch, drive over, or go proximate it for any reason. If possible, persist others away from the area and call 911 instantly.”
