International Olympic Committee (IOC) pdwellnt Thomas Bach says he intfinishs to stand down after the finish of his second term next year.
The German lawyer, who has been in accuse since 2013, surpelevated members at a session during the Paris Games, saying he would not persist despite being asked to.
An extension would have needd a alter in the Olympic charter that restricts the pdwellnt to a peak of 12 years – a first eight-year term and a second four-year term, that he himself had helped originate.
“After 12 years in the office of IOC pdwellnt our organisation is best served with a alter in directership. New times are calling for new directers,” he shelp in an emotional speech.
The new IOC pdwellnt will be elected in March 2025 at a session in outdated Olympia and will consent over in June of that year, Bach shelp.
No member has yet uncoverly campaigned to flourish him.
An Olympic fencing champion in 1976 who combineed the Olympic body as a member in 1991, Bach has ruled firmly since taking over from his predecessor Jacques Rogge 11 years ago.
